CARMICHAEL BUS STOP

This project was a re-design of a campus bus stop located outside of  the Carmichael Gym Complex in which thousands of students would pass through each day.  The design had to incorporate at least one stereotomic material, one tectonic material, and one membrane.

My design was a large stereotomic mass that serves as the platform and movement space for the users (stairs, ramp, etc.). Across the mass a large  hollow steel tube spans the distance of the bus stop holding the FRP roof structure which collects water and sends it down the hollow structure and into a pond that can slowly release it into the earth.

A large component of my project was the integration of rainwater collection systems into the design. The FRP panels that were covering the bus stop also acted as water collectors, capturing rainwater where it then moved through the hollow steel tube supporting the panels and flowed into a cistern at the end of the site.
